ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University track and field team concluded day one of the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in fourth place with 19 total points.
Grand Valley leads the way with 58 points, followed by SVSU (49) and Davenport (31).
The team will look to climb the standings as they prepare for the final day of events on Sunday (Feb. 27).
In the pentathlon,
Crystal Walker came in third with 3,230 points in the event.
Nina Augsten came in fifth with 2,912 points. That scored the Wildcats ten team points.
In the long jump,
Crystal Walker again added points for NMU, this time finishing sixth with a mark of 5.27m. Right behind in seventh was teammate
Akirah Venerable, hitting a mark of 5.24m. The two finishes earned Northern five more points.
The team of
Elise Longley,
Emme Burrough,
Morgan Lyon, and
Anna Kelley earned four points with a fifth place finish in the distance medley relay finals, clocking in at 12:19.00. That rounded out the 19 points earned from NMU in Saturday's events.
The Wildcats also saw several strong preliminary runs on Saturday.
Hannah Jones clocked the best time in the 400m prelims with a time of 58.52.
Izabelle Peterson also ran to second place finishes in the preliminary races for the 60m dash (7.74) and the 200m (25.15).
Crystal Walker took second in the 60m hurdle preliminary races with a time of 9.02.
The team finishes the GLIAC Championship meet today as the mile race will get the day racing started at 12:15 p.m.
