PREVIEW: Three Wildcats head to Last Chance Meets this weekend

MARQUETTE, Mich. – After taking third at the GLIAC Championships last weekend, the Northern Michigan track & field team will send Danielle Lund, Sophia Potter, and Beverly Harper to Last Chance Meets this weekend in hopes of improving their marks and securing a spot at the NCAA Championships in Emporia, Kansas, from May 21-23. 

The three will head to the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet in Joliet, Illinois, on Friday, May 8. Lund will compete in the hammer throw, Potter will run the 10000m, and Harper will contend the 800m. On Sunday, May 10, Lund will throw in the hammer and shot put and Potter will run the 5000m at the GVSU Last Chance Meet in Allendale, Michigan.

Last Week's GLIAC Championship
Lund won the GLIAC title in the discus (42.97m) while also placing third in the hammer throw (51.66m). Her efforts earned her both Field Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet honors. Her season was equally impressive beyond the championship meet, as she set a new school record in the shot put (13.75m).

Potter and Madi Szymanski both secured top-five finishes in the 10000m, where Potter finished in third with a time of 35:34.63, and Szymanski finished in fifth with a time of 36:47.02. 

In the 800m, Harper was fourth with a time of 2:13.68.

Alyssa Tumminaro and Kati Smith each hit 3.49m in the pole vault, with Tumminaro taking second and Smith third. In the javelin throw, Teiolla Harvey placed second at a distance of 37.97m.  With a jump of 11.04m, Alayna Vandegriff finished in third in the triple jump. 

Baux Truckey collected a third-place podium finish in the 20m with a time of 24.35.

Maya Woods, Lily Phillips, Truckey, and Harper earned a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.78.
