ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan Track & Field Team finished its first two days of competition in the GLIAC Track & Field Championships on Thursday, April 30.
Through the first two days, the Wildcats sit in fourth place with 35 points, just two behind UW Parkside and Wayne State, who are tied for second with 38 points. The Wildcats were headlined by three podium finishes.
Heptathlon
NMU had three compete in the heptathlon and were led by
Eva Zonca in fifth place among the twelve contestants. Zonca had her best finish in the 100m hurdles, where she finished second at a time of 15.05. Finishing in seventh was
Natasha Nowakowski, who secured a victory in the javelin throw and a second-place finish in the shot put.
Elizabeth Simpson finished the event in 11th.
On The Track
In the 3000m steeple,
Dani Van Lente finished in seventh place with a time of 11:19.15, which put her a fraction of a second ahead of her teammate Anya Van Sweeden (11:19.23).
Celia Wallace finished the event in 12th with a time of 11:32.25. VanSweeden and Wallace secured personal-best times.
Sophia Potter and
Madi Szymanski both secured top-five finishes in the 10000m, where Potter finished in third with a time of 35:34.63, and Szymanski finished in fifth with a time of 36:47.02. Both Potter and Szymanski ran personal-best times. Additionally, freshman Madelyn Agren finished with a time of 38:34.63.
In The Field
In the javelin throw,
Teiolla Harvey continued her streak of successes with a second-place finish at a distance of 37.97m. Nowakowski secured seventh place with a distance of 33.16m.
In what has been a streak of podium performances,
Danielle Lund secured third place in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.66.
Caterina Thelen placed 12th with a distance of 40.56m.
Prelims
Lamar Gordon had the top qualifying time in the 1500m, advancing to tomorrow's final with a time of 4:45.69.
Ella DeBruyn and
Ashley Choponis also advanced.
Baux Truckey had the fourth-best qualifying time in the 400m (56.58) and the third-best in the 200m (24.56), while
Beverly Harper clocked the third-best time in the 800m prelims (2:18.36).
Maya Woods (1:04.96) and Lily Phillips (1:05.46) each punched their ticket to the 400m hurdle final.
