Kenosha, Wis. - The Northern Michigan University Track & Field competed in Kenosha, Wisconsin at the Lake Michigan Open hosted by UW-Parkside on Saturday (Jan. 22).
Senior
Izabelle Peterson took first place in the 55 meter dash to highlight the day for the Wildcats. Peterson ran a time of 7.21 seconds in the finals. Teammate
Ellyse Wolrath came in fourth in the short distance sprint.
Another top finish for the 'Cats came from freshman
Leah Root, who finished tied for first in the pole vault at 3.4m.
Among other individual races,
Morgan Lyon claimed third in the 400 meter dash with a 1:04.18 time, while
Anna Kelley and
Elise Longley finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 800m. Kelley and Longley also ran in the one mile race, with Longley (5:13.45) finishing third, and Kelley (5:15.24) finishing fourth.
Meghan Langworthy posted a top-5 finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:07.49.
In the 55m hurdles,
Crystal Walker (8.37) finished second and
Ellyse Wolrath (8.66) finished third.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Maria De Mingo Domenech,
Hannah Jones,
Sydney Romps, and
Izabelle Peterson teamed up for a second place finish with a time of 4:10.01.
Akirah Venerable earned a second place finish in the long jump at 5.16m.
Outside of the racing lanes, Maddie Campbell came in fourth place in shot put with an 11.58m mark.
Northern finished second with 95 points. Marquette University finished first with 244. There were four teams competing at the event.
