Platteville, Wis.—The Northern Michigan University Women's Track and Field opened up their outdoor season in Platteville, Wisconsin on Saturday (April 2), finishing with several top performances in the cold and snowy weather.
Leah Root took home a first place finish for the Green and Gold in the triple jump, reaching a mark of 10.64m.
In the long-distance 5,000m race,
Emily Sterling secured first with a time of 18:46.71.
Meghan Langworthy followed behind with a time of 19:00.16 for a one-two finish for Northern Michigan.
In the 100m hurdles, freshman
Crystal Walker took first place with a time of 14.72. Teammate
Nina Augsten followed behind with a time of 15.63 for a second place finish.
Ellyse Wolfrath ran the second-best time of the day in the 100m hurdles with a 14.79 recording in the prelims.
In the 400m hurdles,
Ahna Larson grabbed a runner-up finish for the 'Cats, clocking in with a time of 1:08.89.
Crystal Walker picked up another top finish for the Wildcats, placing third in the high jump with a mark of 1.48m.
The team of
Nina Augsten,
Ahna Larson,
Crystal Walker, and
Sydney Romps finished second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:28.73, falling just short of UW-Whitewater's first place finish.
Leah Root also took fourth in the pole vault while her teammate
Calli Rechsteiner was right behind, finishing tied for fifth.
Hannah Jones took seventh in the 1,500m race in a field of more than 30 competitors with a time of 5:11.18.
