SAGINAW, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University track and field team continued their indoor season downstate at the Jet's Pizza Invitational, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University, Jan. 28-29. The 'Cats took home first place out of five competing teams by claiming 12 team points, narrowly beating out the 10 points from host SVSU.
Over the two day event, the Wildcats received several second place finishes and many final event appearances.
In the distance medley relay finals, the NMU team of
Anna Kelley,
Emme Burrough,
Elise Longley, and
Emily Sterling finished second with a time of 12:50.27.
In the pentathlon,
Crystal Walker finished second accumulating 3,086 points over five events. The pentathlon consists of the high jump, 60m hurdles, shot put, long jump, and 800m run.
Izabelle Peterson took home a second place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.14. Peterson also finished third with a 7.74 timing in the 60m finals.
In the 800m,
Hannah Jones finished second in the finals with a time of 2:15.84. Another silver medal finish came from
Meghan Langworthy, who finished the 5,000m race with a time of 19:00.05.
Leah Root also tied for a second place finish in the pole vault, leaping to a height of 3.44m. Root also took home third place in the triple jump where she reached 10.72m.
In the long jump,
Akirah Venerable jumped a distance of 5.38m for a silver medal finish.
Other notable performances include
Anna Kelley who finished sixth out of 29 racers in the mile with a time of 5:11.34 and
Elise Longley finishing fourth in the 3,000m out of 20 competitors with a 10:21.09 timing.
