Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan women's soccer team tied Ferris State, 1-1, Sunday afternoon after going into double overtime.
With just 13 minutes left in the second half, Aimee Colla took a cross from Hollie Koning just inside the box and netted the equalizer, sending the teams into bonus time.
Two minutes into the game, Ferris State took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brandi Wagner. After dribbling up the field, Wagner thread a shot into the lower right hand corner of the net just out of Caroline Glantz's reach.
The Wildcats had a scoring opportunity in the 37th minute when Wynona Maravilla took a shot off Carmen Villarruel's corner kick, but it deflected off the crossbar.
In the 63rd minute of play, Abby Cook nearly evened the score, but Grace Kraft tipped her shot just over the net. Two minutes later, Northern Michigan pushed the ball into the box, but was denied yet again when Kraft scooped it up
After two overtimes, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Alexandra Simmons made four saves while Glantz saved three shots. Cook led the Wildcats with two shots on goal. Ferris State finished the game with an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
The Wildcats continue their home stand next weekend, hosting Ohio Dominican (Sept. 30, 4 p.m.) and Findlay (Oct. 2, 1 p.m.)
