Box Score DULUTH, Minn. — In its final non-conference game of the season, the Northern Michigan women's soccer team fell to Minnesota-Duluth, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Malosky Stadium in front of 309 fans.
With the loss, the Wildcats will enter Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 0-4 record.
"I don't think our record is an accurate reflection of our play," head coach Matt Granstrand said. "That being said, give UMD credit for a well-played game."
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 21 minutes behind a pair of goals by Kailey Beatt. In the 79th minute, Nicole Becker found the back of the net to extend the Minnesota-Duluth lead to 3-0.
Carlye Wright made five saves to blank Northern Michigan. Alexandra Simmons turned aside three Bulldog shots in a losing effort.
With four shots, two of which were on target, Paula Hafner tied Beatt for the game-high in shots.
The Wildcats open conference play Sunday, Sept. 20 when they host Ashland at noon.
"We have our sights set on our conference opener on Sunday," Granstrand said. "Success will come, and we'll keep working hard until it does."
