MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University track and field team competed in the University of Wisconsin-Stout Open on Saturday (Jan. 25) at the Johnson Fieldhouse.

Juniors Christina Toogood and Olivia Howard led the Wildcats with double wins in running events. Toogood won the mile (5:03.29) and the 800 (2:19.46) whlie Howard won the 3,000 (10:54.08) and the 5,000 (18:54.49).

Toogood's time in the mile was an NCAA national provisional qualifying time.

Junior Chelsea Farquhar was third in the mile with a time of 5:24.95, while junior Larissa Halonen was fourth at 5:25.40. In the 800, sophomore Jaylee Brown was sixth finishing in a time of 2:30.67. Sophomore Catherine Swiderski placed third in the 3,000 with a time of 11:42.54 while junior Emily Allen was third in the 5,000 (19:37.97).

Junior Brittni Wirtz won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.85, while freshman Avadon James was third in the event at 8.01. Wirtz also added a third place in the 200 with a time of 26.62 and senior Sydney Schultz placed third in the 400 at 1:01.66.

In the field events, senior Cheyenne Stewart won the long jump (5.51 meters), and junior Ebony Young was third at 5.20 meters. In the triple jump, Young won the event with a jump off 11.38 meters, while Stewart finished second with a jump of 11.19 meters.

The Wildcats travel to Saginaw Valley State University next weekend for The Cardinal Invite.
