Harper wins 800m, Wildcats claim 14 top-five finishes in rainy Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan Track & Field team competed at the Ashton May Invitational today, where they delivered one victory and 14 top-five finishes under cold and rainy conditions.  

NMU's victory came from senior Beverly Harper in the 800m, while the Green and Gold collected three second-place finishes, five more in third, and 14 total placements within the top five. 


On The Track
In the 4x400, NMU's team of Lola Korpi, Lana Mac, Brooke Lemos, and Beverly Harper finished fifth of seven teams with a time of 4:10.60.  
In the 800m, Harper secured a victory with a time of 2:15.73, while Lana Mac finished in seventh at 2:22.86

Northern saw success in the 5000m, as Madi Szymanski finished in second place with a time of 17:07.10. Right behind her was Sophia Potter with a time of 17:12.23 in third. Finishing in sixth was Ashley Choponis at 18:20.49. 

In the 1500m, Ella Debruyn finished in third with a time of 4:43.04.  

Baux Truckey placed fourth in the 400m, crossing the finish line at 58.82.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Dani VanLente and Anya VanSweeden went back-to-back in third and fourth place, finishing with times of 11:35.02 and 11:37.54, respectively. Celia Wallace wasn't far back in seventh with a time of 11:46.69.

In the 400m hurdles, Maya Woods finished in sixth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.50, while Lily Phillips was ninth at 1:07.45.


In The Field
NMU impressed in the triple jump. The 'Cats swept second through fifth as Alayna Vandegriff had a distance of 10.49m, followed by Allison Schinke at 10.05m, Gabi Leinhardt at 9.75m, and Maddy Rasmussen at 9.47m. 

In the hammer throw, Danielle Lund finished in second place with a distance of 52.71m, and Teiolla Harvey placed tenth with a distance of 43.29m. In the discus throw, Lund threw a distance of 40.49m, which secured her third place. 

In the shot put, the Wildcats were led by Jordan Sprik with a distance of 9.73m for eighth place. 

Harvey and Natasha Nowakowski finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth in the javelin with distances of 31.81 and 31.38, respectively. 

In the pole vault, NMU was led by Alyssa Tumminaro with a jump of 3.47m, which landed her a tie for 11th place. 

Taylor Rodgers and Meadow Ptak tied for 19th in the high jump at a clearance of 1.48m.

The Wildcats will return to Wisconsin next weekend, taking part in the UW-Oshkosh Titan Invite April 10-11.
