DE PERE, Wis. – In its final tuneup ahead of next week's GLIAC Championships, the Northern Michigan track and field team competed at the St. Norbert Invitational on Saturday, where the team finished in second place with 183 points, falling just short of 188.13 points from victor UW-Oshkosh.
On the day, the Green and Gold collected 10 victories, led by three by
Danielle Lund in throws, including a school record of 13.75m in the shot put. On the track,
Baux Truckey sprinted to a pair of wins.
On the Track
NMU's first track victory of the day was secured by
Paige Anderson in the 1500m, who finished with a time of 4:56.52, a personal best.
In the 3000m steeplechase, the 'Cats claimed the top two spots.
Anya VanSweden was first at 10:40.61, followed by
Celia Wallace right in her rearview mirror at 10:44.05.
Baux Truckey secured a pair of wins in the 100m (12.27) and the 200m (24.87). In the 200m,
Maya Woods placed third at 26.12 while
Kanya Campbell placed sixth with a time of 26.42.
Lily Phillips secured a win in the 400m hurdles, besting the competition with a time of 1:03.97.
NMU performed superbly in the 100m hurdles, where they landed four in the top-10. They were paced by
Eva Zonca in second place with a time of 15.21. Close behind her was
Natasha Nowakowski, finishing in fifth at 16.34. Rounding out Northern's top-10 finishers were
Elizabeth Simpson in eighth (16.66) and
Gabi Lainhart in tenth (17.30).
Lola Korpi was the sole participant for NMU in the 800m and secured a third-place finish with a time of 2:20.70.
In the 4x400m relay, NMU placed fifth at 4:17.82.
In the 3000m, Elliot Smith finished sixth with a time of 13:47.25.
In the 400m, NMU was paced by
Lana Mac in eighth place with a time of 1:01.73.
In the Field
Danielle Lund continued her dominant season with three victories in throws. First in the shot put, she set yet another new school record with a throw of 13.75m, eclipsing her throw of 13.69m from two weekends ago in California. In the hammer throw, she reached 52.54m for the win. And she made it a trio of top finishes in the discus, reaching 45.21m.
In the shot put,
Alizabeth Little secured a fifth-place finish with a distance of 12.06m.
Teiolla Harvey finished eighth with a distance of 11.00, and
Jordan Sprik rounded out the top-10 with a 10.69m finish. Harvey finished third in the hammer with a distance of 47.47m.
Caterina Thelen collected a fifth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 37.55m.
Harvey would score another NMU victory in the javelin throw with a distance of 36.44m. That distance put her over two meters ahead of second place.
In the high jump,
Meadow Ptak recorded a victory as she secured a personal-best clearance of 1.57m.
Kati Smith and
Alyssa Tumminaro scored top-five finishes for NMU in the pole vault as Smith cleared 3.50m and Tumminaro cleared 3.35m to finish third and fourth, respectively.
NMU continued its success in the long jump, where
Alayna Vandegriff paced three top-10 finishers. Vandegriff finished in third with a distance of 5.46m, Nowakowski had a distance of 5.01m to secure eighth, and
Eva Zonca had a distance of 5.01m to round out the top-10.
In the triple jump, the 'Cats had another three in the top-10 as they were led by
Allison Schinke in fourth place. She finished with a distance of 11.00m. Back-to-back in eighth and ninth were
Gabi Lainhart and
Maddy Rasmussen, who finished with 0.01 meters apart with distances of 10.30m and 10.29m, respectively.
