MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan volleyball head coach Mike Lozier has announced the elevation of Kamryn Duffield to associate head coach ahead of the upcoming season.
"I am thrilled to be able to elevate Kam to this new title," said Lozier. "She is beyond deserving of the opportunity. Her role within the program has grown each year since she arrived, and her impact is constantly felt throughout practices and matches. She is so well respected by our athletes and the volleyball community as a whole."
Duffield joined the Wildcats' staff ahead of the 2023 season and has played a key role in the program's recent success. Over her three seasons, Northern has had a winning record in each of the past two years, which includes a 25-8 record in conference play, earning homecourt for the GLIAC quarterfinals.
"While I have pushed to grow our youth volleyball programming since I arrived, Kam made it happen," Lozier added. "This past season, she took the reins of the Marquette Youth Volleyball programming, which includes organizing and promoting 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade volleyball in the Marquette area. Kam exemplifies what it means to be a part of NMU Volleyball. I know I speak for our athletes in our locker room, the members of our athletic staff, and the fans/alumni across the world when I say we are thrilled to have Kam as the new Associate Head Coach of Northern Michigan Volleyball!"
"I'm extremely humbled and honored to receive this title," added Duffield. "I feel very fortunate to work with the people I do every day and such a fabulous group of athletes. I want to say a huge thank you to Head Coach Mike Lozier. It's through his mentorship and trust in me that I've been able to develop into the coach I am today."
A former setter, Duffield has helped develop the Wildcats' offense while working closely with the team's setters. During her tenure, she has helped coach 11 All-GLIAC selections, including back-to-back seasons with NMU's setter earning All-GLIAC second team honors. She also helped coach Jacqueline Smith, who earned All-America honorable mention recognition in 2024.
Duffield came to Northern Michigan following a standout playing career at Wayne State, where she was a five-year setter and four-year team captain from 2018-22. She graduated in December 2022 with a bachelor's degree in public relations, along with dual minors in design and sports management.
During her time with the Warriors, Duffield earned All-GLIAC honors five times, including first team recognition in 2021. She totaled 4,814 career assists, the most in program history in the modern era, and ranks second all-time in assists per set (10.22). She also holds the program's single-match assist record with 71 and finished her career ranked sixth in service aces (112) and eighth in digs (1,037).
She was also a two-time Midwest Regional Crossover All-Tournament Team selection and earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors twice.
In addition to her collegiate experience, Duffield spent five years coaching with Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy in Pontiac, Michigan. She assisted at the national level from 2021-23 and helped guide the 16 Mizuno team to a runner-up finish in the 16 Open division at the 2023 AAU Girls National Championship, along with a ninth-place finish at the 2023 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship.
Duffield is a native of Romeo, Michigan, where she attended Romeo High School.
"The community support for Wildcat Volleyball is truly unmatched, and being able to find more ways to give back to that community has been very fulfilling not only for me, but for our athletes and staff too. I'm ecstatic about the present and future of Wildcat Volleyball, and will continue to put my best foot forward to keep elevating not only this program but volleyball in the community of Marquette as well. Go 'Cats!"
