Track & Field has two third-place finishes at Day One of GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – On Day One of the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Northern Michigan Wildcats got off to a strong start, including two podium finishes. 

As it stands, going into the second day of competition, NMU is currently in a tie for third place with 24 points behind SVSU's 28 and GVSU's 79. The Wildcats will look to secure a strong finish in the second and final day of competition tomorrow. 

Pentathlon
Natasha Nowakowski finished on the podium in third place with 3,168 points, narrowly edging teammate Eva Zona in fourth at 3,166. 

In the 60m Hurdles, Zonca finished in third place with a time of 9.36. Only just a bit behind her was Nowakowski, who finished in seventh with a time of 9.58.

In the 800m, once again, Nowakowski and Zonca turned in strong performances as Nowakowski finished at 2:37.37 and Zonca finished right behind her at 2:37.42, which placed them fifth and sixth, respectively. 

Nowakowski was first in the event's shotput with a distance of 10.48. In the same event, NMU had two additional top-five finishers as Taylor Rogers finished third with 9.28m and Zonca in fifth with a distance of 9.02m. 

In the high jump, Zonca led the way for NMU in third place with a clearance of 1.56m. Rogers and Nowakowski finished both with a clearance of 1.53m, which placed them eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding it for NMU was Elizabeth Simpson in tenth place as she cleared 1.47m. 

In the long jump, Zonca and Nowakowski led the way, with Zonca covering a distance of 5.05m, which landed her in fourth place, and Nowakowski finishing with a distance of 4.99m. 


On The Track
In the only team event of the day, NMU's 4000m Distance Medley team of Beverly Harper, Madi Szymanski, Baux Truckey, and Lamar Gordon finished in third place with a time of 11:47.34. 

In the 5000m, Sophia Potter paced four NMU runners as she finished in ninth place with a PB time of 17:24.13


In The Field
In the long jump, Crystal Walker finished in fourth place with a distance of 5.60m.

In the weight throw, NMU landed two in the top-10 as Teiolla Harvey finished in seventh with a distance of 16.54m and Danielle Lund finished in 10th with a distance of 14.46m.
