Track & Field showcases seven victories in De Pere

DE PERE, Wis. - As 192 college football players heard their name called on the NFL Draft stage on Saturday in Green Bay, just over five miles away in nearby De Pere, several members of the Northern Michigan Track & Field team also heard their named called to the podium as the Wildcats collected 14 top-3 finishes in the final meet of the regular season.  

Northern finished with seven wins, four second-place finishes, and three more finishes in the final preparations ahead of next week's GLIAC Championships. In addition, the team hit 10 personal records throughou the meet.

On the Track
The 'Cats had three top-5 finishes in the 100m hurdles. Ellyse Wolfrath claimed the win with a time of 14.05 while Crystal Walker followed right behind at 14.13 for 2nd. Eva Zonca finished in 5th at 15.93. 

NMU got another win in the 1500m from freshman Ella DeBruyn, who finished at 4:48.61. Anya VanSweden also found the top-5, finishing with a time of 4:57.12. 

Ahna Larson earned a win in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line at 12.76. Doubling the distance to 200m, Larson again was the winner with a time of 25.90. Wolfrath followed tightly behind in 2nd at 25.96. 

At 57.80, Ciara Ostrenga collected a win in the 400m. 

Northern's 4x100m relay team of Sofi Diop, Kanya Campbell, Amaya Teague, and Maddy Rasmussen finished in 3rd with a time of 50.91. 

Freshman Samantha Zolnierek placed 5th in the 5000m at 20:39.37. 


In the Field
Wilme Els out-threw the competition by nearly four meters in the javelin, hitting a winning distance of 39.41m. 

Northern had its way in the pole vault, claiming three top-5 positions. Emily Czeiszperger won with a height of 3.46m while Rebecca Lane took 2nd, also reaching 3.46m. Czeiszperger eclipsed the mark on her first try while Lane did it on her third. Alayna Vandegriff rounded out the top-5 at 3.16m. 

Vandegriff also competed in the triple jump, where her distance of 11.84m was good for 2nd place. Diop followed in 3rd with a distance of 11.75m. 

Teiolla Harvey was 3rd in the shot put, throwing a distance of 11.96m while Walker was 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 5.52m. 


Up Next
The Wildcats will now prepare for the GLIAC Championships, taking place April 30th through May 2nd in Allendale, Michigan.
