MARQUETTE, Mich. - Coming off of an 81-60 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday, the NMU women's basketball team will now take on Ferris State at Grand Valley in the GLIAC Semifinals on Saturday, March 8 at 4:30 p.m.
The game will follow the first semifinal bout between No. 1 Grand Valley and No. 4 Wayne State, with the winner from each game playing in Sunday's GLIAC Championship game.

About the 'Cats
The Wildcats have won four straight, averaging 80.3 points per game.Â
Under blizzard conditions in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, NMU blew past Saginaw Valley State 81-60 in the GLIAC Quarterfinals.Â
Jacy Weisbrod powered the Green and Gold offense, hitting seven triples for the second consecutive game on her way to a game-high 27 points, the third time she's hit that mark this season. She shot an extremely efficient 7-9 (77.8%) from beyond the arc and was the driving force behind a 12-21 (57.1%) team effort from three, the best they've shot this season.Â

Casey Thousand has the Wildcats ranked third in the latest Midwest Region poll, trailing Grand Valley and Ashland. In three seasons under Thousand, NMU has improved each and every year and holds a 59-30 (.663) record.Â
This is the second straight season the Wildcats have advanced to the GLIAC semifinals to play Ferris State at Grand Valley. Last season, Northern 63-56 before falling to the Lakers in the championship game, 67-48.Â
The Green and Gold have been one of the best rebounding teams in the GLIAC, with its 5.7 rebounding margin ranking second in the conference and top-50 nationally while also pulling down 29.3 defensive rebounds per game, good for 18th in the country.Â
Junior
Jacy Weisbrod has been one of the most lethal three-point threats in the country. Knocking down seven in each of the last two games, she is knocking them in at a rate of 3.0 per game, ranking third in the nation. She is also 16th across Division II in three-point percentage at 40.5. She is 8th in the conference and leads the 'Cats averaging 14.1 points per game.
Abi Fraaza (9.2),
Sarah Newcomer (9.1) and
Alyssa Nimz (8.3) have also played a key role in NMU's offense. Fraaza is averaging 15.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and shooting 74.2% from the field over her last four. Newcomer is averaging 10 points per game over the last six. Off the bench, freshman
Sydney Whitehouse is averaging 10.3 points over the last four and has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games.Â
A Look At Ferris State
The Bulldogs defeated Roosevelt 67-58 on Wednesday night to advance to the next round. FSU is 20-10 overall.
Averaging 76.1 points per game, the Bulldog offense is led by the trio of Mia Riley (14.6 points per game), Mya Hiram (13.2), and Kenzie Bowers (10.9). Elle Irwin runs the point, averaging 3.1 assists per game and leading the GLIAC with a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio.Â
Northern was victorious in both meetings this season, 78-48 in Big Rapids on January 23 and 75-48 in Marquette on February 15.
