PREVIEW: #10 Women's Swim and Dive at Home for Two Meets

The 'Cats welcome #13 Wayne State to the PEIF Pool for a skins meet on Friday night followed by a session on Saturday morning

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The #10 ranked NMU women's swim and dive team is at home this weekend, welcoming the #13 Wayne State Warriors.

The Wildcats and the Warriors start with a Skins Meet on Friday, November 7, at 5 p.m., followed by a dual meet on Saturday, November 8, at 10 a.m. from the PEIF Pool. For those unfamiliar with the term, a 'skins' event is an exciting series of back-to-back sprint races which operate on a knockout basis, with the two remaining swimmers racing each other in a head-to-head final race. Rounds are fired off at short, set intervals, meaning athletes must not only sprint, but also recover and reset quickly.

Admittance to the PEIF Pool is free for spectators, and streaming coverage will be provided on Flo Sports. The service will be linked once the stream is live and ready to go.

The 'Cats are boasting top times in the conference through four meets. Anika Wright commands a top-spot among the conference distance swimmers, as she claims D2 B standards to go with the third and fourth fastest times in the 1000 and 500 free, respectively, while also holding the sixth fastest time in the 100 fly. Wright's 1000 free and 500 free times are the 8th and 13th fastest marks in the D2 landscape.

Annika Geyer has her name sprinkled all over some of the top times in the conference, as she is third in the 200 fly, holds the fifth best time in both the 200 and 500 free, sixth in the 100 fly, and ninth in the 50 fly.

One of the best divers in the conference, Kalina Ceglinksi holds the top spot in the conference for the 1-meter six dives, and third in the 3-meter six dives. Back in the pool, Evie DeCarlo holds the fourth best time in both the 100 free and 100 breast to go with the fifth-fastest mark in the 200 IM among the conference. Her breast and IM times both rank 23rd across the entire D2 landscape. Julia Zimpel has found success in the breaststroke, holding the third-fastest time in the 50, sixth in the 200, and seventh in the 100.

The Wildcats have found success in the backstroke early in the season, claiming the top three fastest times in the 50 back with Laura Stockinger (26.13), Emma Casas (26.30), and Evangeline Pierce (26.58), all relay leadoff's. The trio also hold the first (Casas, 56.52), third (Pierce, 57.06), and fifth (Stockinger, 57.74) fastest marks in the 100 back, and Pierce holds the third-fastest time in the conference in the 200 back (2:04.44). Stockinger and Casas 50 back times are 10th and 14th, Casas 100 back is 10th, and Pierce's 200 back is 18th across the D2 landscape.

The 'Cats 400 medley relay team has a time of 3:51.81 set vs GVSU, a time second in the conference and 10th in the nation.
