Women's Swim Concludes Competition on Friday at the NCAA Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The NMU women's swim team wrapped up its competition from the NCAA championships on Friday.

There were two athletes competing in the prelims hoping to earn spots into tonight's finals: junior Carlotta Santi and freshman Evangeline Pierce.

Santi finished 17th in the 500 free, narrowly missing that final spot into the consolation finals, followed by Santi finishing 20th in the 100 back.

The NCAA championships conclude tomorrow, with prelims starting at 11 a.m. ET and the finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Fans can watch both the prelims and the finals for free at Ncaa.com, and follow along with live timing using the Meet Mobile app.

How It Happened
Santi opened Friday's NCAA appearance for the 'Cats in the 500 free, swimming in lane two of heat four. Sant had a strong first half of the swim, keeping pace with the leaders in her heat. The sophomore found herself in sixth when the bell rang for the final 50, and that's where she would stay, posting a time of 5:00.85 to finish 13th with one more heat to go. After the final heat, Santi would slide to 17th, finishing just 0.25 seconds out of swimming in tonight's finals.

Freshman Pierce swam in the first heat of the four in the 100 back, competing in lane three. Pierce swam a great race, posting a time of 56.07 to finish fourth in the heat. Pierce's time would shift down to 20th after all heats were completed, and would miss out on competing in tonight's finals.
