MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan women's basketball team continues its four-game homestand on Monday, welcoming the newest member of the GLIAC, the Roosevelt Lakers, for the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
Coming off of a 68-64 victory over Michigan Tech, NMU (10-3, 4-1) hosts the Roosevelt Lakers (4-7, 2-3) on Monday, January 13, at 5:30 p.m. The Lakers are also coming off of a win over Tech, beating them 74-57 in Houghton on Saturday.

About the 'Cats
At 4-1 in conference play, the Wildcats find themselves in a tight race at the top of the GLIAC, with Grand Valley State (6-0), Ferris State (5-1), and Parkside (5-1) all ahead of Northern.
The Green and Gold rank inside the top-20 in the nation in two categories: 11th in turnovers per game (12.7) and 19th in assist/turnover ratio (1.13).
Jacy Weisbrod is 4th in the conference averaging 15.5 points per game. She has scored in double figures and made multiple triples in all but two games. Her 3.2 made threes per game is the second best mark in the nation.
Sarah Newcomer (9.4) and
Alyssa Nimz (9.1) are both over nine points per game while
Abi Fraaza scored 13 points last time out in her first game of the season.
Newcomer ranks 7th in the league at 3.2 assists per game and 3rd with a 1.8 assist/turnover ratio. On the glass, Nimz ranks 6th in the GLIAC at 7.2 rebounds per game while
Alyssa Hill is 12th overall with 6.1.
NMU's defense has been its calling card, as its 60.1 points per game allowed is second fewest to Grand Valley State. The Wildcats also allow opponents to shoot only 28.0% from three, the third-best mark across the league.
Casey Thousand guided NMU to an 8-0 start this season, the Wildcats had its best start since 1998-99, when the program established its best start ever with 16 straight wins. In her first 3+ seasons guiding the Green and Gold, head coach
Casey Thousand accrued a record of 47-26 (.644), including a 22-10 clip last season in which NMU made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 and defeated Kentucky Wesleyan to make the Round of 32.
A Look at Roosevelt
In its first year in Division II, Roosevelt is 4-7 overall, coming off its signature win to date: a 74-57 victory at Michigan Tech. Jaylie Turchin and Marie Outlay each scored 17 points, with Outlay adding 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Outlay and Luka Malinka co-lead the Lakers at 12.4 points per game while Turchin is also in double figures at 10.3. Roosevelt averages 60.6 points per game while allowing 71.0. From the field, the Lakers shoot a GLIAC-low 33.7% while also struggling from beyond the arc at 25.8%.
Head Coach Dean Thomas is in his third season guiding the Laker program, previously making the NAIA CCAC Tournament Quarterfinals in each of the previous two seasons.
