Women's Soccer Embark on First GLIAC Road Trip of 2024

MARQUETTE, Mich. -  The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team is hitting the road this week, heading to Illinois to face off against Roosevelt on September 27, followed by a matchup with Purdue Northwest in Indiana on September 29. 

The 'Cats look to build on their recent performance, having updated their record to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play after its first GLIAC matchups last weekend against no. 1 Grand Valley State and Davenport.

This will mark the first meeting in program history against Roosevelt, who was added to the GLIAC ahead of the season. The last time the Wildcats faced Purdue Northwest was during the GLIAC tournament, where they secured a decisive 3-0 victory.

A Look at Roosevelt
This is Roosevelt's first season in Division II, and first season as a member of the GLIAC. In their last match against Saginaw Valley, they were defeated 2-0. The Lakers are still searching for their first win, currently sitting at 0-3-2 overall and 0-2 in GLIAC play.

Senior Paola Macias leads the Lakers in goals and points, with two goals and an assist through five matches, with Cami Butler and Kyra Cruickshank rounding out the Roosevelt scorers. Junior goalkeeper Roxy Herrera has been the only goalkeeper to see action for the Lakers this season, allowing 11 goals with a 2.20 GAA and .761 SV%.

A Look at Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest is off to a solid start this season, boasting a record of 4-0-1 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play, including riding a three-game winning streak. 

Senior Amaris Gonzalez was named offensive player of the week last week as she contributed with three goals over the weekend, two of which were game-winners. Gonzalez leads the Pride in goals and points, followed by Yoselin Garcia (1-3--5) and five other goal scorers. The Pride have seen split time from its netminders, with Meta Fisher taking over the reins and posting a 1.20 GAA and .750 SV% in her three games played.
