MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Wildcats were nationals bound last week where they took on 59 other teams across the country for the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships. The 'Cats finished 19th with a handful of All-American honors and stellar performances across the board.

The first night opened with the 800 Free Relay on Tuesday where the 'Cats earned Second-Team All-American Honors.

Becca Burrows,
Anika Wright and
Meritxell Font Cantarero found 15th place with a final time of 7:30.17 and helped secure the team in the same placement by the end of the day.
Day two saw
Anika Wright kicking off the meet with the 1000 Free. She finished out the meet in 29th of 39 with a time of 10:19.90. The 200-yard Medley Relay team of Carbone, DeKievit, Font Cantarero and Burrows made waves with their sixth place finish and First-Team All-American honor after finishing out the event with a time of 1:41.35.
It was far from over for the Wildcats as Carbone, DeKievit, Font Cantarero and Santi earned Second-Team All-American honors for their run in the 400 Medley Relay. The relay team finished out the event in 11th place and with a time of 3:43.99, only trailing ninth place by .07 seconds. Northern Michigan concluded the third day in 17th place with 41 points, only one point behind Delta State.
As day four came to a close, the team saw Carbone place seventh in the 100 Back for a time of 55.03 to earn First-Team All-American honors. Alongside her was Font Cantarero who earned Second-Team All-American honors for her 11th place finish in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:01.52, which also happened to break a school record. The women found 16th place out of 59 teams by the end of the day with 59 points, only trailing Clarion by four heading into the final day.
The competition wrapped up with the 400 Free Relay team of Santi, Font Cantarero, DeKievit and Carbone taking 19th with a time of 3:32.42. The women's team finished out the meet in 19th with a grand total of 59 points.
