MARQUETTE, Mich. – Hopes are high for the Wildcats' remainder of the season after victories this weekend against the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point at the PEIF pool.
Highlights
The meet started off strong with both sides taking first and second places, and third for the Women's team, in the 200-yard Medley Relay.
Vanessa Steigauf,
Ella Houwers, and
Mia Strazny took the podium for the 1000 Yard Freestyle, while
Ondrej Zach,
Daniel Khmara, and
Logan Robillard did the same for the Men.
First and second place continued to come naturally for the Wildcats with Pilar Perello-Ferrer, Evelyn DeCarlo,
Felipe Lemos, and
Caleb Rice in the 200-yard Freestyle.
The 100-yard Backstroke had
Olivia Haerr taking another first place title along with
Leo Nolles, who had
Erikas Kapocius coming in second place only .43 behind him.
Roberto Camera earned another win during the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 58 seconds. On the Women's side,
Michaela Nelson and
Jenna Joerger took the second and third place titles when they came out of the water at 1:08.90 and 1:10.21.
Events 11 and 12 revolved around the 200-yard Butterfly where
Zoe DeKievit,
Faith Sill, and
Nadia Helm claimed first through third. The same placements were made by
Jasper Pullinen,
Luke Pettinger, and
Patrick Andrews.
William LaCount, Marty Wolmarans, and
Ben Stolberg made an impression when they took the top three spots in the 50-yard Freestyle. Although the Women were not able to make a first place finish, the team did take second through fifth place.
Abbie Harned came through for the Wildcats with first place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She was able to improve her score in the latter by 96.67 points, putting her final score at 231.52.
Tobie Stiles was able to make similar moves as Harned when he took first for both events as well. His 3-meter dive had a final score of 268.65 while his 1-meter was 266.40.
Nelson took the spotlight for the Women's 100-yard Freestyle when she came in first with a time of 53.26. As for the Men, LaCount, Camera, Stolberg,
Grant Combs, and Khmara claimed first through fifth.
While Sill and Auger earned first place for their respective teams in the 200-yard Backstroke, right behind them were Helm and Rice with times of 1:57.14 and 2:00.00.
Kapocius claimed first yet again in the 200-yard Breaststroke and was able to drop 6 seconds. Steigauf, Hannig, and Strazny took first through third places for the Women.
The 500-yard Freestyle seemed to approach quickly where we saw Txell Font-Cantarero find herself in the lead with a time of 5:18.49. Zach also made a first place finish when he made it out of the water at 4:47.92.
Joerger and Nolles led the pack during the 100-yard Butterfly, adding another first place title to their names. Similar to them was Steigauf and Daniel Lopez-Aponte, who had final times of 2:14.80 and 2:00.17.
The 400-yard Freestyle Relay closed the meet with both Team A's cashing in their first place wins. On the Women's team was Hannig, Perello-Ferrer, Joerger, and Nelson, while the Men's had LaCount, Kapocius,
Dean Ramsbottom, and Nolles.
Final Scores
The Wildcats blew the UW-Stevens Point Pointer's out of the water. A 200-96 point victory was made by the Women's team and the Men's team won 213-84.
