Championship Preview: #2 NMU and #1 GVSU Meet for the GLIAC Title

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team defeated Saginaw Valley 1-0 in the GLIAC Semifinals and will now play Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Championship match in Allendale, Mich. on Sunday, November 6 at 4 p.m.

The Wildcats (13-2-5) are 0-1-1 against Grand Valley (14-2-4) this season. The 'Cats dropped the first match 1-2 in Allendale, Mich. on September 23, and then played the Lakers to a 0-0 draw in their final meeting of the season at home on October 9.

A Look at the Wildcats
The Wildcats are 13-2-5 and finished the regular season 8-2-4 in conference competition. They most recently defeated Saginaw Valley State 1-0 in the GLIAC Semifinals with the lone goal coming from Brooke Pietila.  Shenae Kreps stopped all two shots on target, earning her 9th shutout this season.

Northern Michigan has a balanced and explosive attack, with Brooke Pietila (7G, 6A for 20 Pts.), Brenna Musser (6G, 6A for 18 Pts.), Justina L'Esperance (7G, 2A for 16 Pts.), and Molly Pistorius (5G, 6A for 16 Pts.) all top-ten in the GLIAC in points. Pistorius leads all freshmen in each scoring category. 

In net, goalkeeper Shenae Kreps has a 0.54 goals-against average and a .850 save percentage to lead the GLIAC. The Wildcats pace all GLIAC teams with 13 shutouts over the course of their season. 

A Look at Grand Valley State
Grand Valley enters the match 14-2-4 and is coming off a 3-0 semifinal win against Ferris State.

The Lakers are led by Kennedy Bearden and Taylor Reid who both have a GLIAC-best 13 goals to go along with 33 and 28 points respectively.
