Playoff Preview: #2 NMU to Host #7 Parkside on Tuesday

Wildcats Look to Build on Highest Tournament Seed in Program History

MARQUETTE, Mich. -  The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team earned their highest regular season finish in program history, entering the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed with a GLIAC record of 8-2-4. The 'Cats went 11-2-5 overall. 

Northern is set to welcome Parkside to Marquette for a GLIAC Quarterfinals matchup on Tuesday, November 1 at 3 p.m. Parkside finished seventh in the conference going 4-9-1 in GLIAC contests. In two meetings this season, the Wildcats were victorious each time (7-1 and 1-0).

A Look at the Wildcats
The Wildcats are 11-2-5 and finished 8-2-4 in conference competition after rounding out the regular season with a 1-0 win at Michigan Tech. NMU's 41 goals tied Grand Valley for tops in the conference and their 115 points are second in the GLIAC. They have also allowed the fewest goals with ten. 

Brooke Pietila and Molly Pistorius each have six assists, tying them for second-best in the league. Pistorius is first among conference freshmen in goals (5), assists (6), and points (16).

In net, goalkeeper Shenae Kreps has a 0.61 goals-against average to lead the GLIAC. The Wildcats pace all GLIAC teams with 11 shutouts over the course of their season. 
 

A Look at Parkside
Parkside enters the tournament 7-10-1 overall as they went 4-9-1 in the GLIAC. The Rangers' attack is led by Emily Mikkelson who has five goals and seven assists and Alexis Baker who has eight goals and four assists. 

Parkside is hot of late, going 2-0-1 in their last three games including a 3-1 upset win over Grand Valley State and a 5-0 shutout victory over Purdue Northwest. 
 

Previous Matchups
In Kenosha, the Wildcats surged to a season-best 7-1 win. Molly Pistorius, Brooke Pietila, and Rachael Erste all scored twice. In Marquette four games ago, the Rangers played a much tighter game as NMU won 1-0. Maria Storm scored the lone goal in the final ten minutes.

The GLIAC semifinals and championship game will take place at the highest remaining seed following Tuesday's quarterfinals matchups. The semifinals will be on Friday, November 4th with the championship set for Sunday, November 6.
