MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team will be taking on both Grand Valley State University and Northwood University to open up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this weekend to continue their 2021 season. The Wildcats will be hosting Grand Valley State at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 17th.
Sunday, September 19th, NMU will be on the road competing in their second game of the weekend against Northwood at 12 p.m.

PRESEASON POLL
|
The Wildcats, coming off a GLIAC match appearance, came in third in the GLIAC Preseason Poll. They notched 49 points and finished five points ahead of Michigan Tech.

KEY RETURNERS
|
Senior Caroline Halonen, the 2021 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team honoree, returns to the Wildcats attack. Last season the midfielder was ranked in the top ten in NCAA Division II in several statistic categories. She was second in NCAA Division II in goals (11), fourth in total points (23), and seventh in goals per game (.92).
Sophomore Brooke Pietila is also back for NMU after a season that earned her All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors.
Goalkeeper Shenae Kreps returns to the goal for her senior season. Kreps was in net for all eight Wildcat wins and had 27 saves and a .643 save percentage in her first season in Marquette.

STAT LEADERS
|
Two Wildcats are in the top five of the conference in three statistical categories for women's soccer.
NMU goalkeeper Shenae Kreps is currently the No. 1 keeper in the conference in saves with 26 in her senior season for the Wildcats.
Senior Caroline Halonen is tied for third in most points with eight that she has brought in so far for the Wildcats. Halonen is also fifth in the conference for shots on goal. She has 17 in the three games she has played this season.

LAST TIME OUT
|
The Wildcats put up a good fight this weekend against Bemidji State but fell short in overtime losing 2-3.
Ashley Koch and Isabela Cardoso both scored goals for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats outshot the Beavers 20-13, with nine different student-athletes taking shots on goal.

NMU VS GRAND VALLEY STATE
|
NMU and Grand Valley State have played 33 matches against each other. The last match the Wildcats played against Grand Valley State was last season at the GLIAC Championship game.

NMU VS NORTHWOOD
|
The Wildcats have an all-time record of 16-12 against Northwood. NMU beat the Timberwolves twice last season including a match during the GLIAC Tournament.
