Women's Soccer Outshoots Huskies 19-5 in Road Loss

HOUGHTON, Mich – The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team played through rainy conditions today at Michigan Technological University but managed to tally over three times as many shots as the home team in a 2-0 loss to the Huskies. 

  SHOOTING SUCCESS

The first half saw the Wildcats show dominance in shooting on the Sherman Field pitch.

NMU had eight shots to Michigan Tech's one and also had two shots on goal while denying the Huskies any shots on target in the first half.

Each team got one corner kick in the first and had an even five fouls.

Isabela Cardoso led the first half effort for the 'Cats with two shots while Rachael Erste and Gwen Kiilunen tallied both shots on goal for the visitors on the scoreboard.

  SECOND HALF

The Huskies scored in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 lead on their home turf after a corner kick.

Despite falling behind, the Wildcats continued to outshoot Michigan Tech with a margin of 11-4 in the second half.

The defense for NMU also limited the Huskies to only four shots in the final half of the match.

Maria Storm led the Wildcat attack in the second half as she tallied two shots on goal and three total shots.

A penalty kick for MTU in the 77th minute went into the net to put the home team up 2-0 which would hold in the win for the Huskies.

  STAT LEADERS

The Wildcats shooting impressed as they had 19 shots to Michigan Tech's five. In shots on goal, the NMU team also led with a mark of 6-2.

Cardoso had a match-high four shots and also had a shot on goal. Storm's two shots on goal led the Wildcat team and the match.

A total of five NMU student-athletes tallied shots on goal and three more were able to add shots to the stat line for the Wildcats.

Goalkeeper Shenae Kreps played all 90 minutes in the net for the NMU squad.

  UP NEXT

Two road matches are on the docket for the Wildcats next weekend. NMU faces the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday at 3 p.m. and Purdue University Northwest Sunday at 1 p.m.
