MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer team hosted Northwood University in nonconference play. Despite scoring the game's first goal, the Wildcats were unable to take victory, falling 2-1.

SCORING FIRST

The Wildcats saw multiple opportunities in the first half and put one into the back of the net at the 39-minute mark. 

Freshman Natalie Stampfly (Stevensville, Mich.) was able to settle a deflected ball right outside the box and fired it into the bottom left corner past the diving Timberwolves' goalkeeper. The goal gave NMU a 1-0 lead.

However, NU managed to tie the game with just six seconds remaining in the half. The visitors then took the lead with a goal with 3:27 left to play to take a 2-1 victory.

STAT LEADERS

Four players finished with multiple shots as Stampfly, sophomore Caroline Halonen (Hartland, Mich.), and freshmen Isabelle Brusilow (Grosse Point, Mich.) and Brenna Musser (Grand Rapids, Mich.) each posted two shots. As a team, the Wildcats finished with 10 shots. Multiple shots were just barely off target as they hit the post or crossbar.

In goal, junior Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wis.) finished the match with five saves.

UP NEXT

The Wildcats will now hit the road to visit University of Wisconsin Parkside on Saturday in a nonconference matchup. They then will host Parkside September 27 to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
