  LAST TIME OUT

The Wildcats enjoyed a weekend away from action, last competing in Minnesota where they took on the University of Minnesota Duluth and Southwest Minnesota State University. Against Duluth, NMU was even at halftime but the Bulldogs got hot in the second half to take an 84-62 win. The team returned Saturday to take on SMSU and this time the Wildcats won the second half to beat the Mustangs 72-63.

  ON A RUN

NMU got the victory over SMSU in large part due to a 14-point run to open the second half. Senior Marcus Matelski (Boyne Falls, Mich.) hit back to back threes which freshman Noah Parcher (La Crosse, Wis) then added a layup. Matelski continued the run with a nother three before junior Alec Fruin (Beloit, Wis.) followed with his own three to give NMU a 44-30 lead less than four minutes into the half.

  LEADING THE WAY

Matelski and Fruin are leading the team as they both average 11 points a game. Matelski is leading the squad at 11.3 points per outing while Fruin is right at 11 points. Against SMSU, Matelski scored a career high 18 points and has 12 points games against Lewis University and Duluth.

Fruin scored 17 points against Lewis and has posted nine points in each of the past three games. He also leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. Against the Mustangs, he grabbed a career high 10 rebounds while dishing out a career high seven assists.

  HITTING FROM DEEP

The Wildcats are third in the GLIAC from the three-point line, shooting 37.1% from behind the arc. Their 105 threes and 39 makes are the second-most among all teams who have played four games. Leading the team is Matelski, who is third in the GLIAC by shooting 54.2%, 13-24 this season. Fruin is 40% while redshirt freshman Ben Wolf (Naperville, Ill.) is shooting 38.5%. Sophomore Dolapo Olayinka (Chicago, Ill.), 35.7%, is followed by senior Sam Taylor (Chicago, Ill.), 35.3, and Parcher, 33.3%, with players who have appeared in all four games.

  NMU VERSUS FAIRBANKS

The Wildcats took on Fairbanks twice in the 2013-14 season and came away with two wins. They then faced the Nanooks again in the 2000-01 season and captured a third victory. Fairbanks has dropped their last four games and are now 1-5 this season.

  NMU VERSUS ANCHORAGE

NMU seeks their first victory over the Seawolves after dropping two games in the 1993-94 season. UAA enters the weekend at 5-1 and hosts Michigan Technological University Friday night.
