MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Men's Basketball hits the road for the second straight weekend as the Wildcats head to the University of Minnesota Duluth for the American Family Insurance Classic.
The team takes on the host Bulldogs Friday night and then plays Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday afternoon.

The season began last weekend with the Wildcats competing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge with NMU splitting their two games.
On Saturday, NMU defeated Lewis University 76-63 but fell to McKendree University in Sunday's game 69-46.

LEADING THE WAY
|
Sophomore Alec Fruin (Beloit, Wis.) led the Wildcat offense with 13 points per game, scoring 17 points in the opener against Lewis. Senior Sam Taylor (Chicago, Ill.) added 10.5 points over the weekend as he paced the squad with 11 points Sunday.
Sophomore Dolapo Olayinka (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in with nine points while freshman Xzavier Jones (Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied eight per game.

GETTING THE FIRST WIN

In the season opener, five players reached double figures to give the Wildcat the victory. Fruin scored 17 points to lead the way while Olayinka added 13 and Mateski posted 12. Off the bench, redshirt freshman Ben Wolf (Naperville, Ill.) provided 11 points while Taylor scored 10.
Taylor and freshman Noah Parcher (La Crosse, Wis.) both dished out five assists as NMU recorded 15 assists in the game.
NMU outscored the Flyers 53-39 in the second half to propel the team to victory.

BLOCK PARTY
|
Senior Myles Howard (Chicago, Ill.) and Wolf both posted two blocks in Sunday's game with McKendree. Wolf is leading the team with three blocks this season. Last season, Howard paced the GLIAC with 78 blocks last season, averaging 2.8 a game.

NMU VERSUS MINNESOTA DULUTH
|
Friday's matchup will be the 72nd meeting between the two programs with NMU holding a slight 36-35 advantage in the all-time series. The Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs 64-52 last season. Minn. Duluth is 1-1 on the season, defeating Southern Nazarene 115-109 in double overtime but falling to Southeastern Oklahoma State University 95-86 the next day.

NMU VERSUS SOUTHWEST MINN. STATE
|
NMU enters Saturday's matchup looking to stop a four-game skid to SMSU. The Mustangs come into the weekend at 1-1 on the season and will take on Stonehill College Friday evening.
