Women's Soccer Gets 2-0 Victory Over PNW

HAMMOND, Ind. – Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer picked up a 2-0 victory over Purdue University Northwest for their second shutout of the season and their first shutout of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season.

  ON THE BOARD

The teams battled to a 0-0 tie after the first 45 minutes, but NMU changed that in the second half.

At 59:01, sophomore Rachael Erste (Rockford, Mich.) scored her first goal of the season to break the tie and give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Evelyn Flor (Hugo, Minn.) picked up her second assist of the season on the play.

  ONE MORE TO MAKE SURE

Flor aided the offense again just over a minute later with her second assist of the game and her third of the season when she found junior Andrea Sekloch (Casco, Mich.) at the 60:12 mark, giving Sekloch her first career goal.  

The goal gave NMU a 2-0 lead which held for the Wildcat victory.

  STAT LEADERS

Sophomore Caroline Halonen (Hartland, Mich.) posted a team best four shots, putting three on goal. Erste finished with three shots and put each one on goal while junior Isabela Cardosa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also had three shots.

Sekloch and senior Jamie Montgomery (Gaithersburg, Md.) both posted two assists. As a team, the Wildcats posted 17 shots, outshooting the hosts 17-7.

In goal, junior Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wis.) notched five saves.

  PLAYOFF PICTURE/UP NEXT

Northern Michigan is now tied with Michigan Technological University for the seventh seed in the GLIAC Tournament. NMU and MTU are both one win and two points ahead of University of Wisconsin Parkside.

NMU will now head to Parkside Sunday to take on the Rangers. A win over Parkside will secure a GLIAC Tournament spot.
