Box Score WINONA, Minn.—Northern Michigan University women's soccer (0-2, 0-0 GLIAC) dropped their second road contest of the weekend Sunday afternoon, 4-1, to Winona State University (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) in Winona, Minnesota.
Despite allowing a goal in the 17th minutes, the Wildcats were able to keep the contest close in the opening half, only trailing by a single goal at the break.
Just over four minutes into the second half, Winona St. would score their second goal of the game to go up a pair. Freshman forward Jenna Halonen (Howell, Michigan) cut the deficit back to one when she found the back of the net in the 52nd minute of play of a deep pass from senior defender Allyssa Milam (Williamston, Michigan)
Quickly, the Warriors would push their advantage back to a pair of goals in the 57th minutes, while scoring their fourth goal in the 67th minute of action.
Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wisconsin) was faced with a difficult afternoon between the posts facing 19 total shots from the Warriors. Of the 19 total shots, 10 were on goal with Frontuto recording six saves. NMU recorded 14 shots in the contest.
Next up for the Wildcats will be their home opener for the 2017 season. NMU fans will get to see the women's soccer team in action Friday when they host the University of Minnesota Duluth at 2 p.m. Bemidji State University will also make the trip to Marquette, Michigan Sunday, September 10 for a 3 p.m. matchup.
