Wildcats with Undefeated Weekend After Tough Draw

Box Score

CALEDONIA, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer (2-5-1, 1-0-1 GLIAC) fought to a scoreless draw with Davenport University (5-2-1, 1-0-1 GLIAC) Sunday afternoon to cap off an undefeated weekend on the road.

Despite the shot numbers being nearly identical in the first half, the Panthers found more attack opportunities with four corner kicks to NMU's none. At the halftime break, the Wildcats had a 5-4 shot advantage and would continue to dominate offensively in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.

NMU looked to be on their way to finding the back of the net outshooting DU, 4-1, in the opening fifteen minutes out of the halftime intermission. The Panthers would finish the contest narrowly edging the Wildcats in the category with 15 shots to NMU's 14.

Both teams took their chances in the second and final overtime period with NMU recording four shots to DU's three. Neither team managed to find the back of the net, resulting in the first draw of the season for each squad.

The NMU offensive attack was again led by freshman forward Jenna Halonen (Howell, Michigan) who finished the game with four shots, two on goal. Junior defender Anna Worman (Racine, Wisconsin) took for shots of her own, while senior forward Madison Hamilla (Gaylord, Michigan) and senior midfielder Abby Cook (DeWitt, Michigan) each recorded a pair of shots.

Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wisconsin) recorded her second solo shutout of the season after facing 15 shots, six on-target. Frontuto recorded saves on all six DU shots on-goal.

Next up for the Wildcats will be Northwood University who NMU defeated a week ago for their first victory of 2017. The Wildcats and Timberwolves will face-off Friday in Midland, Michigan, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Two days later, NMU will go up against Saginaw Valley State University Sunday at noon.
