Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn.—Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer (0-1, 0-0 GLIAC) dropped their season opener on the road at St. Cloud State University (1-0, 0-0 NSIC), 3-0, Friday evening in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The loss marked the Wildcats' fourth-consecutive loss to the Huskies.
With just three combined shots through the first fifteen minutes of play, SCSU took over the final 30 minutes of the first half, offensively. The Huskies found the back of the net three times in six shots before the end of the opening half.
In the second half, the NMU defense was able to hold St. Cloud St. to just a pair of shots, while the Wildcats doubled their shot total from the first half. The offense was led by senior forward Madison Hamilla (Gaylord, Michigan) and senior defender Allyssa Milam (Williamstown, Michigan) who each took two shots.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Vermette (Sault St. Marie, Michigan) began the game between the posts allowing the first goal of the contest in the 20th minute. Vermette was replaced in the 28th minute by freshman Brianna Frontuto (Luxemburg, Wisconsin) who surrendered two goals in 62 minutes. Each recorded two saves in five shots faced.
The Wildcats continue their opening weekend on the road in Winona, Minnesota, where they will take on Winona State University Sunday at 1 p.m. NMU will be looking for their first victory all-time over the Warriors in five previous tries.
NMU fans will have to wait until Friday, September 8, to see the Wildcats at home when they host the University of Minnesota Duluth at 2 p.m. Bemidji State University will also make the trip to Marquette, Michigan Sunday, September 10 for a 3 p.m. matchup.
