MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan women's soccer team fell to No. 1 Grand Valley State, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the NMU Soccer Field.

The Wildcats held the defending NCAA champion Lakers, who entered the game 5-0-1, scoreless until the second half.

Grand Valley State opened the scoring in the 50th minute when Gabriella Mencotti netted her first goal of the game, threading a shot into the right corner of the goal.

Mencotti found the back of the net six minutes later, taking a pass from Kendra Stauffer and again sending a shot into the right corner of the net.

Mia Gale completed the scoring in the 70th minute.

Caroline Glantz made six saves for the Wildcats. Gabriella Garza took a shot on goal.

Northern Michigan returns to action Sunday, hosting Ferris State at 1 p.m.
