MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team fell 1-0 to the University of Minnesota Crookston in its home opener on Saturday (Sept. 7) afternoon from the NMU Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles scored the game's only goal with 25 seconds left in regulation.

The game-winner was scored by Nikki Hammond. She received a midfield pass from Rachel Halligan and found herself alone on NMU goalkeeper Caroline Glantz. Hammond took her time and found the opening to give her team its first win of the season.

Glantz had four saves for Northern. Lexie Gauger had six saves for the Golden Eagles.

NMU continues non-conference play on Monday (Sept. 9) at Lewis University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
