Soccer Falls in Season Opener

DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team opened up the 2013 season on Thursday (Sept. 5) at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The Wildcats fell 2-1 in the non-conference meeting with the Bulldogs under the lights at Malosky Stadium.

UMD opened the scoring with a goal at 8:46 on an unassisted shot by Maureen Stormont. The Bulldogs added to the lead with an unassisted tally by Dani Potter at the 67:43 mark.

Just under ten minutes later, NMU got on the board with a goal by sophomore Ashley Katers, the first of her career. Freshman Carmen Villarreuel picked up the assist.

NMU's goalkeeper, Caroline Glantz had two saves on the evening in her first career start. Marissa Rosa also tallied two saves for the Bulldogs. The Wildcats finished with seven shots to UMD's 13. Freshman Paula Hafner, Katers and junior Haley Boroughf each had two shots.

The Wildcats play their home opener against non-conference University of Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday (Sept. 7) at noon from the NMU Soccer Field.
