MARQUETTE, Mich. – After concluding the regular season with a tie and win over the weekend, the Northern Michigan University soccer team continues its season in the first round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The Wildcats are the number six seed and will face number three seeded Ashland University on Tuesday (Nov. 5) at 2 p.m. in Ashland, Ohio.

NMU closed out the regular season with an overall record of 5-9-3 and 5-4-3 in the GLIAC. On Friday (Nov. 1), the Wildcats tied 1-1 on the road against Walsh University. Sophomore Ashley Katers had the lone NMU goal. In Saturday's (Nov. 2) matchup against Malone, Northern shut out the Pioneers, 3-0 from Canton, Ohio. Freshman Paula Hafner, junior Nicole Musi and sophomore Gabriella Garaza each had goals in the game.

Leading the Wildcats this season is Hafner with eight goals and Musi who has four. Freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Simmons has 60 saves in 14 games and 11 starts. She has a record of 4-4-3 for the season.

Ashland is 9-5-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the conference entering Tuesday's game. The Eagles were defeated by Ohio Dominican on Saturday in its final regular season game. ODU took the shutout, 5-0 at Ashland.

Krista Lewis leads the Eagles in goals on the season with seven. Kelly Krispinksy, Allison Richards and Maddy Smith each add five. Rebecca Plesica is 9-4-2 between the pipes with 74 saves on the season.

The Eagles hold the all-time series, 13-4-3 over the Wildcats, including 7-2-2 with games played in Ashland. The two teams faced one another in Ashland on October 20, in which NMU was defeated 5-0.

The winner of the Northern Michigan/Ashland game will advance to the GLIAC women's soccer semi-finals on Friday (Nov. 8).
