Soccer Falls to Lakers

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team was defeated in its final regular season home game against Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 27). The Lakers (14-0-1, 11-0 GLIAC) took the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, 3-0. NMU is now 4-9-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the GLIAC.

The first Laker goal came at 16:38 on a header from the center of the box by Shelby Humphries, with Olivia Emery assisting. Marti Corby had the second goal (22:21) and Kendra Stauffer (37:29) buried in the third. GVSU led 3-0 at the half, and NMU held the Lakers scoreless during the second half.

The Wildcats shot the ball six times, including three on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Simmons had five saves on the afternoon. GVSU finished with 14 shots and goalkeeper Abbey Miller stopped the ball three times.

Before the game seniors Heather Amr, Kaylagh Hollen, KC McCary and Nicole Musi were honored.

NMU closes out the regular season of play with a pair of games in Ohio, taking on Walsh on Friday (Nov. 1) at 7 p.m. and Malone on Sunday (Nov. 3) at noon.
