Soccer 'Cats Lose On Penalty Kick

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After playing over 100 minutes of scoreless soccer the Northern Michigan University women's soccer team lost to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals Friday afternoon by a score of 1-0 in double overtime.  NMU drops to 6-7-1 overall on the season and 4-5-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.  The Cardinals improve to 11-1-2 and 8-0-2 respectively.

Saginaw Valley State had the shot advantage in regulation with a 15-5 slate.  In overtime the home team had all three shots.  Of NMU's five shots, two were on-goal for the game.  The Cardinals had 11 shots on-target.  Corner kicks were in favor of the home squad at 7-1.

Samantha Echols scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick at 103:47.  Kara Music in goal for the 'Cats had 10 saves on the afternoon. 

The 'Cats continue of its road trek with a game at Northwood Sunday (Oct. 18 at noon).
