INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Michigan University women's wrestling team earned multiple honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) on Friday, highlighted by five All-GLVC selections and a conference sportsmanship award.
All-GLVC First Team
At 145 pounds, junior
Alissa Caltagirone (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was named to the All-GLVC First Team after a standout season that included a runner-up finish at the regional tournament in which she went 3-1. She will compete at next weekend's NCAA Championships. She was the only non-McKendree First Team honoree.
All-GLVC Second Team
Northern Michigan placed two wrestlers on the All-GLVC Second Team: sophomore
Sophia Bassino (Chicago, Ill.) at 160 pounds and redshirt sophomore
Abbie Miles (Kenosha, Wis.) at 180 pounds. Miles secured a second-place regional finish after a 3-1 record, while Bassino went 4-1 to place third. Both will compete next weekend at the NCAA Championships.
All-GLVC Third Team
Freshman
Alyssa Keane (South Elgin, Ill.) earned All-GLVC Third Team honors at 138 pounds, and junior
Mickaela Keane (South Elgin, Ill.) was recognized at 208 pounds.
Mickaela Keane added a fifth-place finish at the regional tournament, while
Alyssa Keane also competed. Each sister notched a victory for the Green and Gold at the regional level.
Sportsmanship Recognition
Bassino also represented the Wildcats as the program's honoree for the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.
McKendree graduate student Cameron Guerin was named the 2025-26 Women's Wrestler of the Year. Her teammate Heather Crull earned GLVC Freshman of the Year honors, and McKendree mentor Alexio Garcia was voted GLVC Coach of the Year by his peers.
A total of 30 wrestlers were named All-Conference honorees across five teams, and seven student-athletes were recognized as their program's GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honoree in the sport. The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches.
