CORALVILLE, Iowa – Three Northern Michigan women's wrestlers represented the Northern Michigan Wildcats at the NCAA Championships on Friday, with
Alissa Caltagirone notching a victory on the national stage.
At 145, Caltagirone made history with Northern's first-ever victory at the NCAA Championships. She defeated Selina Moore of East Stroudsburg with a 12-0 tech fall in 1:15. She then lost by tech fall in the following round. In a tight match in Cons. Round 2, Caltagirone fell in a 4-4 decision to end the night.
Sophia Bassino lost twice at 160 despite two valiant efforts. In her first match, she was defeated by a 12-0 tech fall. In the following match, Bassino picked up the first points and led 9-8 at 4:49, but ultimately fell by a fall.
At 180,
