UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Northern Michigan track & field team competed at the Jet's Pizza Invite this weekend, delivering two wins, three runners-up, and four third-place finishes.
On the Track
In the 4000m DMR on Friday, the group of
Ashley Choponis,
Beverly Harper,
Ella DeBruyn, and
Madi Szymanski took first place in a time of 11:59.64, edging Division I Oakland by over four seconds.
Harper went on to claim an individual victory in the 800m. Her time of 2:14.31 was just enough to get the job done.
Szymanski also found the podium, finishing the 3000m in 10:03.03 for second place.
Choponis also earned a second-place finish in the mile, crossing at 5:01.22. Right behind her was DeBruyn in third with a time of 5:01.66.
The Wildcats had three runners in the top ten of the 5000m.
Sophia Potter finished in second at 17:50.34, while Dani VanLente (18:11.35) placed sixth and
Anya VanSweden (18:22.62) was eighth.
With a time of 25.22,
Baux Truckey placed third in the 200m.
The relay team of Truckey, Lily Phillips,
Lana Mac, and Harper finished in 3:59.55 for another bronze finish for the Wildcats.
Crystal Walker finished in sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.95.
In the Field
Alayna Vandegriff had NMU's lone top-3 finish in the field. She reached 10.62m in the triple jump for third.
In the pole vault, Kati Smith and Vandegriff each reached 3.32m, finishing in a six-way tie for fourth place.
Crystal Walker also earned a fourth place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 5.26m.
Throwing 12.31m,
Alizabeth Little placed fifth in the shot put.
Teiolla Harvey placed sixth in the weight throw at 16.27m, while
Danielle Lund was 10th with a distance of 15.02m.

The Wildcats will return to Saginaw next weekend to take part in the annual WCW Tri-Meet on Saturday, Feb. 7. NMU will try to defend its crown against the Cardinals and Warriors.
