Jillian Thompson named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

MARQUETTE, Mich. - NMU women's soccer goalkeeper, Jillian Thompson, is being honored as this week's GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, announced today by the conference.

In her first start since September 7, 2024, Thompson made five saves to aid the Wildcats to a 1-1 draw against the St. Cloud State Huskies, marking the second-most single-game saves in her collegiate career, and just two shy of a career high. Thompson got the nod to start again on Sunday against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, where she made three saves to help the Wildcats to a scoreless draw and earn her first shutout since November 12, 2023.

Through two matches, Thompson has played every minute of action and leads GLIAC netminders in goals against (1), goals against average (0.500), save percentage (0.889), shutouts (1), and is third in saves (8).

"This is well deserved for Jill!" adds head coach Erin Egolf. "Not only did she put in two back-to-back good performances in important regional games for us, but this is also a nod to the performances of our back line and full team defending. Individual recognition stems from team performance, and I am pleased with the defensive effort that this group put in throughout our first two matches!"

The Wildcats are back at home this weekend, playing host to regional opponents in Northwood and Cedarville.
