Men’s Basketball adds Charlie Miller from the transfer portal

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Matt Majkrzak and the Northern Michigan Men's Basketball team have announced the addition of Charlie Miller out of the transfer portal. Miller joins the Northern Michigan program after three seasons at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), a Division I program out of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Over the last two seasons at UNI, he appeared in 24 games, scoring 17 points and shooting 45% from three. He scored a career high of 5 points against Northern Illinois. He was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll list several times.

"Charlie was the perfect fit for us out of the portal," Majkrzak said. "With 10 freshmen on next year's roster, it was important for us to bring in a guard with college experience to be a great leader, on top of a key contributor. His background as a coach's son and grandson, combined with his three years at Northern Iowa, fits our needs perfectly. Charlie fits the NMU guard DNA and is very unselfish and willing to make the right play. He's a big-time shot maker that we can use in ball screens or running off the ball. He's a winner who can help us keep competing for conference championships."

As a prep star in his home state of North Carolina, Miller was a two-time All-Conference guard at Lumberton High School and reached the North Carolina Class 4A State Final Four as a senior in 2020-21. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in his senior season for the Pirates and was named First Team All-Region and Third Team All-State.

He is the son of Ben Miller, former UNC-Pembroke Men's Basketball Coach, and grandson of Eldon Miller, former Western Michigan, Ohio State, and UNI Basketball Head Coach.

Miller joins an incoming class of seven freshmen consisting of Nathan Fife, Pryce Gregoire, Keller Hanson, Brooks Hinson, Andrew Murphy, Trevor Polite, and Ross Robertson. The group of seven consists of three guards, two forwards, and a pair of wings who combined for 12,062 career high school points.
