Men's Basketball adds Bennett Basich to roster

Basich joins the Wildcats after one season at Division I UW-Green Bay

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Matt Majkrzak and the Northern Michigan Men's Basketball team have announced the addition of Bennett Basich out of the transfer portal. Basich joins the Northern Michigan program after a season at UW-Green Bay, a Division I program out of the Horizon League.

Basich redshirted his lone season with the Phoenix, but had a standout career at Arrowhead High School in Wisconsin. He was a member of the two-time state runner up team, was First Team All-State, and was a Two-Time First Team All Conference (Classic 8) honoree. As a senior, he was the Classic 8 Player of the Year after averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. Basich also excelled in the classroom, being recognized on the Academic All-State Team all four years of high school.

"Bennett comes to us from Green Bay after redshirting his freshman year," said Majkrzak. "He's someone we've watched play a lot during his tremendous high school and AAU career, and have always been extremely impressed with. His energy and competitiveness are second to none, and we are thrilled to add another big time winner to our group. He's got a ton of experience playing in championship games, and he's always elevated his game to match the big moments. He has a tremendous feel for the game on both sides of the ball, and can fill the entire box score."

Basich joins Charlie Miller (Northern Iowa) as the second Division I transfer guard the Wildcats have added to the 2025-26 roster. Along with a strong and experienced returning frontcourt and a talented and versatile underclassmen group, the Green and Gold will have high expectations in 2025-26 as they have their sights on a fourth consecutive season with a GLIAC Championship.
