PREVIEW: Men’s hoops hosts Duluth on Saturday

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan men's basketball team is ready for a weekend of home holiday hoops, with Saturday's matchup against Minnesota Duluth set for November 29 at 1 p.m. at Vandament Arena. The Wildcats were originally scheduled to play Concordia (WI) on Wednesday, but the game was canceled due to weather-related travel concerns and will be made up at a later date.

The Wildcats enter the weekend at 3-1 following a dominant showing in Wisconsin Dells, where they defeated Northern State 80-61 and Northwest Missouri State 69-51.

Saturday's game can be streamed on FloCollege or listened to live on 100.3 The Point, with Casey Ford on the call.

About the Wildcats
Through four games (all in Wisconsin Dells), the Wildcats sit at 3-1 and now return home to Vandament Arena for the first time this season. The championship mindset remains intact after last year's GLIAC Tournament title, and the opening stretch has offered an early read on the team's strengths.

NMU opened last weekend with a 69-51 win over Northern State, overcoming a slow start behind a dominant performance from Dylan Kuehl with a career-high 35 points. The Wildcats trailed for much of the first half before Kuehl sparked a late surge, scoring 12 points in the final five minutes to flip the game and help NMU take a 31-26 lead into halftime. The Wildcats held off multiple Wolves pushes after the break to secure the win.

NMU carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup with Northwest Missouri State, handing the Bearcats a 69-51 loss to snap their five-game winning streak. The Wildcats broke the game open with a 14-2 run to start the second half and controlled the final 20 minutes, outscoring NWMSU 36-20.

Graduate forward Dylan Kuehl was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after dominating both contests, averaging 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. His career-high 35-point outing against Northern State set the tone for the weekend, and he followed it with an 18-point, 16-rebound double-double against Northwest Missouri State. Through two weeks, he leads the GLIAC in scoring at 22.0 points per game, stands third in both rebounds (8.0) and field-goal percentage (56.7%), and ranks fourth in assists at 3.8 per contest.

About Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs have opened their season at 4-1, losing to Michigan Tech 57-48 and defeating Lake Superior State 72-69 this past weekend in Duluth. They are averaging 72.8 points per game and allowing just 62.2 per game, a top-12 defense in Division II. Redshirt junior Caleb Siwek is leading the way at 21.8 points per game while shooting 55.6% from the field. He scored 34 points in the season-opener vs. East Central.
