NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Northern Michigan wrestling team took fourth place of nine teams at the NCWWC Northwest Regional Qualifier on Sunday. Three wrestlers qualified for the national stage:
Zhivanna Magdaleno,
Marisa Angelos, and
Alissa Caltagirone.
Nine Wildcats earned at least one victory and contributed to the team point total of 82. North Central (IL) won the region with 219 points, followed by 106 from Aurora and Stevens Point at 103.5.
Marisa Angelos finished in second place in the 143 class after a 3-1 record with two wins by fall and another by decision.
Alissa Caltagirone also found success in the 143, taking true 4th after picking up a win in the quarterfinal.
Zhivanna Magadaleno also earned a 2nd place finish in the 123 weight class, picking up a win by decision in the semifinal.
Noelle Gaffney took 4th place at 155 following three victories by decision.
Sharon Leon placed 5th at 130 after a 3-2 record with all her victories coming by fall. Another 5th place finish came from
Mickaela Keane at 170 after three wins.
Ruby Joseph placed 6th at 170. At 109,
Trinity Valentin placed 7th and another 7th place finish came from Teni Ajayi at 191.
