MARQUETTE, Mich. - This is your one-stop shop for all things NMU athletics over the past week, giving you the top highlights from each sporting event!

Alpine Ski
The Alpine Ski team took to Marquette Mountain over the weekend for the USCSA Regional Championships, and successfully defended the home hill by capturing the Regional Title. Both the men and women claimed first overall team scores on Saturday and Sunday.

During Saturday's Slalom, the trio of Aaron Grzelak, Brad Seaborg, and Reed Heathman went one through three on the men's side, with Ella Wichert and Reagan Olli claiming gold and silver for the women. On Sunday's Giant Slalom, Tommie Springer, Reagan Olli, and Ainsley Kirk claimed gold, silver, and bronze medals for the women, and Reed Heathman claimed silver for the men with both Will Blackmer and Aaron Grzelak in fourth and fifth.

Swim and Dive
Sophomore Leo Nolles traveled to Doha, Qatar mid-week to represent Uruguay and compete in the World Aquatic Championships. Competing on the national stage, Nolles placed 40th in the 100m freestyle on Wednesday with a time of 50.73 before rounding out his competition with the 100m butterfly on Friday Morning, placing 45th of 66 to finish with a time of 55.86.

Nolles not only broke a team record and claimed gold in the 50-yard freestyle, but he was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that claimed bronze and broke another team record at this year's GLIAC Championships.

Lacrosse
The Wildcats continued their hot start to the season with two more wins, defeating GLVC opponents the Lewis Flyers and Quincy Hawks.

Redshirt senior Minnie Bittell scored six goals and one assist with a .857 shooting% en route to a 14-11 victory on Friday. Bittell continued to rewrite the NMU history books on Sunday, becoming the programs all-time leader in games played while tacking on five goals and four assists with a .810 shooting% for nine points to guide the 'Cats to a 17-4 routing of the Hawks. Over the weekend, Bittell scooped six ground balls, caused three turnovers, and secured seven draw controls over two games to add to her 16 point weekend.

Kaitlyn Bridger had back-to-back hat tricks, freshman Josie Lakosky missed Friday with an injury then scored a hat trick and three assists on Sunday, and fellow freshman Abby Sisson also registered a hat trick on Sunday.

Women's Basketball
After a back-and-forth first half that saw the Northern Michigan women's basketball team holding a slim 31-30 advantage at intermission, the Wildcats dominated the second half, outscoring the Huskies 39-15 en route to a statement 70-45 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Ana Rhude had a career performance for the Wildcats, scoring 16 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting display. Without a miss in eight attempts, she tied the program's single-game record for most field goals without a miss (Krista Pray vs. Carthage College - 8 of 8 in 1983, Lisa Jamula vs. Northeastern Illinois - 8 of 8 in 1989). Rhude scored 10 of her points in a less than nine-minute stretch over the final two quarters.

This snapped a 14-game losing streak against the Huskies, going back to February 23, 2017.

Men's Basketball
Without its top scorer in Max Weisbrod, the Northern Michigan men's basketball team fell short at Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon, falling 80-69. Leading 37-32 at the half, the Wildcats were outscored 48-32 in the second half.

Carson Smith paced the Wildcats with 20 points on an impressive 8-11 shooting. Dylan Kuehl (14), Riley Brooks (13), and Sam Privet (11) also reached double figures for the Green and Gold. MTU's Marcus Tomashek scored 20 points in the second half and 34 in the game to lead all scorers.

Track and Field
In the final tune-up ahead of the GLIAC Championships next weekend, the Northern Michigan track & field team sent a small group to Oshkosh to compete in the Titan Challenge, where the team picked up three wins and multiple runner-up finishes.

The Wildcats scored 64 points, placing in third. Oshkosh scored 153 to win, narrowly edging Eau Claire at 151.

Beverly Harper was one of two runners to finish in less than a minute in the 400m, her 59.42 proving just enough for a first-place finish.

Freshman Sofi Diop finished in second place in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.91.

Leah Root collected another victory for the Green and Gold in the triple jump, hitting a distance of 11.01m. She also reached a mark of 3.57m in the pole vault, taking second place.
