Two wins and three second-place finishes highlight track’s indoor opener

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Northern Michigan track & field team competed at its first indoor meet of the season, taking 3rd place of nine teams at the Early Bird Open in Wisconsin. Ellyse Wolfrath won the 60m hurdles, the 4x400m relay team picked up a victory, and Walker, Sweeney and Lane earned second place finishes to highlight the meet for the Green and Gold. 


Track Events
Ellyse Wolfrath and Crystal Walker went 1-2 in the 60m hurdles. Wolfrath clocked in at 8.69 for the win while Walker crossed at 8.89 to take 2nd place. Wolfrath's preliminary time of 8.66 was an NCAA provisional mark and currently stands as the second best time in Division II. 

The team of Ahna Larson, Ellyse Wolfrath, Ciara Ostrenga, Beverly Harper took home top honors in the 4x400m relay, crossing at 4:00.99.

Northern had four finishers in the top-6 in the 3000m race. Emma Sweeney finished 2nd with a time of 10:58.23, while Anya VanSweden, Ella DeBruyn, and Lola Korpi placed 4-6. 

The Wildcats placed 5-8 in the mile, with Beverly Harper leading the way at 5:34.28 for 5th. Emma Sweeney, Anya VanSweden, and Lola Korpi followed with times under six minutes. 

In the 400m, Ciara Ostrenga finished in a time of 59.31 for 3rd place. Doubling the distance in the 800m, Ella DeBruyn took 6th in a time of 2:36.89.


Field Events
Rebecca Lane placed second in the long jump, reaching a distance of 3.35m. Kati Smith tied for 6th with a mark of 3.05m.

In the shot put, Alizabeth Little placed 4th with a distance of 12.36m. In the weight throw, she earned a 5th place finish with a throw of 14.00m.

Hitting 5.50m, Crystal Walker finished in 5th in the long jump. 

Grace Wolfe placed 6th in the high jump, hitting a mark of 1.50m. 

Teiolla Harvey took 7th in the shot put with a distance of 11.63m.

Evan Zonca took home an 8th place finish in the long jump, hitting a distance of 10.22m. Yesterday in the pentathlon, Zonca placed 8th, Natasha Nowakowski finished in 11th, 
and Alyna Vandegriff took 15th.

The 'Cats will now take more than a month off for the holidays before returning to action on January 25 at the Karl Schlender Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater.
