Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Wildcats completed the Minnesota road trip on Saturday, dropping game two from Mankato by a score of 4-0.
Six different 'Cats recorded two shots on goal, led by
Colby Enns and
Rylan Van Unen with six attempts.
10 different Mavericks recorded a point, and Alex Tracy recorded an 18-save shutout.
The 'Cats were outshot 26-18, blocked 10 shots to nine, went 0/2 on the power play, and 5/5 on the penalty kill.
The 'Cats fall to 8-13-3 overall and 6-9-1 in CCHA play with 20 points. The Mavericks improve to 13-9-4 overall and 9-5-2 in CCHA play with 30 points.
How It Happened
1st Period
In a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes of the period that neither team was able to separate, the Mavericks opened the scoring on a wrap-around with five minutes remaining in the first period.
Gallacher was given a five-minute major with 36 seconds remaining in the first period, and four seconds later the 'Mavs were given a penalty, and the teams skated 4-on-4 into the locker room, Shots were dead even at eight-a-piece, while the 'Cats held an 8-5 faceoff advantage.
2nd Period
The Mavericks were awarded a five-minute major along with some other penalties called, and the Mavericks skated on a 4-on-3 power play. Sam Morton wound up from the top of the right circle and blasted a one-timer past the glove-hand ear of Halasz.
The Mavericks extended the lead off a broken play from the face-off as a bouncing puck couldn't be corralled by a Wildcat, and Krajnik found the loose change to beat the out-stretched Halasz.
In a middle frame that was riddled with whistles, reviews, and stoppages of play, the Wildcats found themselves in a three-goal hole heading into the final frame. The Mavericks outshot the 'Cats 13-4 in the second.
3rd Period
The Mavericks extended the lead after Groll received a cross-crease pass and fired a wrister past the glove hand of Halasz.
