MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University track and field team will continue its indoor season this weekend, Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Kenosha, Wisconsin for the Lake Michigan Open, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
The single-day events will take place in the Frank Petretti Fieldhouse. The fields events will begin at 11 a.m. ET. The track events will get going at 1:10 p.m. ET, starting with prelim races followed by finals.

History in Kenosha
The Green and Gold attended the Lake Michigan Open last season on January 21, 2023, where they were victorious, finishing in first place with a team score of 185. Multiple Wildcats were able to finish with high rankings or wins.
Ellyse Wolfrath took the title for both the 55 meter hurdles and 55 meter dash, with a time of 8.32 in hurdles and 7.42 seconds in the dash.
In the 3000 meter run, the Wildcats took the top seven spots in the final,
Madi Szymanski dominated the field with a time of 10:04:99, which was 44 seconds faster than second place.
Leah Root also found success in Pole Vault, being the only participant to clear 6.68 meters.
A Word from Jenny Ryan
Ryan touched base with NMU Media earlier this week to discuss the trajectory of the team, as well as the indoor season. She shared that the team is looking healthy and several players are transitioning back to the roster after previous injuries. Ryan stated, "A large group of girls have returned from last season fitter, and stronger.

Emma Sweeney, a distance runner are going to do some big things this semester."
